Definitely When I did my Halloween cosplay entry, I took pictures in the comfort of my home and photoshopped background shots from the park behind my house Koreena also photoshopped fire onto her costume (at least I hope it was photoshopped XD)

Also, big thanks to Morvydd for a large assortment of goodies! Double thanks for going through and adding to stacks and giving matching pairs

@ Iceblue

Thanks for your input If your talking about entry 2 it might not be fully clear pictures because it`s in a cartoon format, but if your talking about entry one I did all I can for it to show my scupltors. I stated from when I entererd the contest I had made the sculptors weeks prior for the offical contest only planned to take one picture, but plans changed and most of my pictures got deleted I found a couple and readded them to my entry. As for reasembling my entire project would take a lot of repairs lol (my own bad thinking). I wish I had a better camera also it``s the best I can do. Thank you for your thoughts tho. Oh yea if you click on dl image it will show picture a lot bigger.

Name:Norrukki (Ingame "Vanessa The Mesmer", also known as Blake Ryan if I link my progress through my Facebook design page.)
Idea for entry: Recreating my mesmer in her Elite Enchanter's (Dyed Red) (Her Obsidian would be a little out of my time/money limit since I just found out about the contest today.), my best friend is a model who looks and proportioned exactly the same as her. Then I'll make a CC weapon set for her to use in the photoshoot.
Art form type: Fashion Design/Garment Creation/Photoshoot
Progress Gallery Link: TBA

Questions/Preliminary input needed:
1. Which CC set should a mesmer have? I honestly had thought just the CC Sword. The CC Shield would be fun as well(Big ol' wrapper), but I don't particularly like the GB focus/shield. I also consider the Spear due to the spear chucker mesmer builds since Paragon's release.
2. Snow is not easy to predict in Texas. Especially with 2 weeks left before deadline, its unlikely we'll get some until January. Is photoshop okay to add a few details that life doesn't give? (Magic glows as well for Mesmer spells if I go the battle route)
3. What scenery do you suggest? (See also, part 2.)
4. What other details could set the scene apart from just a basic cosplay?
1. I feel slow, what are your abbreviations for? I'm sure they make perfect sense, I just can't think straight (so many assignments Q.Q)
2. Photoshop is certainly okay! Especially to add in extra effects. Many of the cosplayers (Tzu may be the only exception, actually. I'm not sure) typically do some adjusting in photoshop for their backgrounds/framing/etc.
3. Hm... scenery. I would suggest something a long the lines of Wintersday (well... duh. :|) So, how about sitting at a fireplace, sippin' some cocoa? You could possibly have a Wintersday Tree in the background, be on a rug, etc. Think along the lines of This, this, and this for references.
4. If you go with a fireplace kinda idea, lighting should be a key factor. Make it obvious that the lightsource is the fire; try and get it so that there is a warm glow of light on your person without being so close you're in the fire (did that make sense?). For somereason I see that as being fairly eyepopping.

Hope that helped

It's not that you use photoshop,it's how you use it that counts

Whoa... with only like 2 weeks to go, there's only 27 progress gallery links, and yet 21 IRL prizes to give away. . . Can we get some extra publicity from somewhere so this doesn't turn into a judging nightmare?
WTB more entries, PRONTO :O

Good day Nolani people!

For a couple of years now I have really been enjoying lurking around silently in the Nolani Academy here. Making a little step out of the shadows right now
I really enjoy all the different sorts of art, the different styles, seeing how a piece of art is created, how it takes shape and the progress artists are making.
It just puts a smile on my face every time!

Keep up the good work everyone, looking forward to what more will be created!

...I should actually do this this year.

I think I'll use this as an excuse to get more practice using a more painterly style than my old one in Corel Painter. Probably something with my dear old Gui Qiang... perhaps showing that not all of Grenth's followers hate joy?

There, now I have something to actually do this weekend besides play Skyrim/Terraria.

@ KiyaKoreena

I like your work very much. i tried do work with selfmade play dough - but unfortunately i got two left hands in crafting...

Actually working on that dwayna figure...

But already get my background-scenery photoshopped and fixed an animation issue...

How often shall i do a snapshots in my progress? Actually this is all just... "prework" for my project ^^

Edit:

At this place i shall confess that i reuse my 3d-model of the grentch which i used for competition-entry last year... so i hope nobody is wondering why it looks so familiar... If anybody recognize it anyway.

Please allow me to ask another stupid question:

I'm a german citizen - may i paticipate at this workshop anyway... Or, if my humble skills let me win something - is shipping to europe an issue?

I believe that as it is a community run competition shipping to Europe is OK.

I will be away for a while, looking forward to seeing how everything turns out.

Merry Christmas everyone

LOL! Good point, but don't forget this isn't a plain 'ole art contest XD Anyone who posts, whether it be an art entry, a motivational feedback post, a post begging for feedback, etc, is actually eligible for an award due to the nature of the awards I'm actually thrilled with the number of entries we've received - it's about what we expected if we use our past workshops as a guide - plus we have some new faces in the mix

Also, thanks again to all of those in the workshop who helped get the word out about the workshop *before* the RL prizes were announced (included in the first post! Remember these people when you vote for "The People's Award!" ). And another big thank you to those that publicized that there would not be an official contest and included a link to the workshop (CrossingTyria is one that comes to mind and there are a few others). Of course, thank you to GuildWarsGuru for the big notice on the top of every page about the workshop and all your support <3

You can include as much as you want I'm sure many people are curious (me included) on how you're going to make the flash vid! Since the progress gallery is also meant to let people browse and give you suggestions/feedback, take as many snapshots as you want

Kvinna is super awesome and let me know that shipping to Europe is not an issue, which is why we didn't add one of those 'restricted to US/canada clauses'

Oh my gosh, lots of awesome stuff happened over those last couple pages! I'll give some feedback tomorrow, since sadly I don't have a lot of time right now! Just wanted to drop a quick update on the sketch everyone liked the most, I started fleshing out some stuff and changed the perspective a little (to get that "oh sh**!"-feeling ).

Drizzt, I really enjoy your style. You have a very appealing asthetic to your painting. Keep it up!

@Kiya You have assembled every miniature polar bear in the existence of Tyria on your countertop. feel lucky!

@Steelborn That grenth looks so much better now. My only suggestion is to maybe make the cutout parts of the bass (the swirl) either more evident, or not visible at all. Right now, you get half of one, so you know its there. But it becomes imbalanced with the other side, where no swirl is prominently visible.

Thank you!
1. Candy Cane. I think I've decided on putting a matching red mesmer mask in her left hand and a Candy Cane Sword in her right hand to reference all artwork that suggests that mesmers should always have swords. lol
2. Okay making sure. I want to make her actual look like she's casting spells in one of the shots.
3. I'll possibly do a few shots. I want a couple "battle" shots, and I might do a sexy alluring shot involving a fireplace.

Also, I want to include a Jingle bear, somehow.. I was thinking just a silly reference by maybe getting a stuffed polar bear and accessorizing it like the jingle bears. Either putting it near her on the ground like a mini, or having her cuddle up with it at the fireplace... Or photoshopping in a "real" one into the photo.

I work at a fabric store, so I'll be grabbing some pieces for the outfit that I'm missing while I'm there tonight. I gotta do a late submission for my school work after my shift, so I'll start tomorrow and have preliminary progress pics up by the evening tomorrow!

Both swirls are there, but i see what you mean the lightening is very unlucky there... i will have to fix that ^^

Hiya guys!!

Looks like everyone's getting along the progress just fine.

@Koreena: Your Jinglebears look absolutely ADORABLE! ^^
@BadDrizztfan: wow, that is looking awesome! And I do like the version you went along with better. It's rocking out so far :3

And here's my current WIP:

I haven't gotten far, but I've made some slight changes, put in a background and made all of the lines digital. I'm gonna make it a lineless pic though so the thick comical lines won't be there later.

Ok, let's try this again. I've had a chat with Thistle and fixed my links below to meet requirements (the text is now hiding under the spoiler tag). To clarify a point - while this parody was inspired by the contest over at GW2G my work is not entered into the contest there (it was written as an example piece).

☆Hey, Thistle! I want to participate in the workshop!☆
Name: unraveled
Idea for entry: Wintersday Carol Contest over at GW2G
Art form type: erm... parody of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. So... literature?
Progress Gallery Link: Words are here (naughty words are censored):

And (Gods help me) the recording is here (naughty words are not censored) - www.youtube.com/watch?v=12rwy_RhsoY

Happy to take any suggestions or feedback for changes to the parody. A couple of spots are a little so-so rhythm-wise.
